Black Lives Matter protesters vowed to stay camped outside the mayor’s home until the Police Commission votes on the fate of the officers involved in the deadly shooting of Ezell Ford, a 25-year-old, mentally ill black man in South L.A. in August 2014.

Both the district attorney’s office and the police department have reportedly cleared the officers of any wrongdoing, but Jasymyne Cannick, with Black Lives Matter, tells McIntyre in the Morning that while there had been some progress made between police and the black community prior to Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck taking charge, they want him fired.

“I know that Chief Beck likes to talk about how things are great with black people in South LA but they’re really not,” she said.

Cannick said with the help of Congresswoman Diane Watson and the hundreds of activists that will be outside the commissioner’s meeting today, protesters will prove that police relations are not going in the right direction.

Cannick believes firing Beck will send a message that the mayor is paying attention to a community that is unhappy with the leadership of their city.
