Study: Online Dating Leads To Happier Marriages

Online dating is coming of age, joining couples in matrimony that is more blissful than couples who found each other in the analog universe; through friends, work, or the corner bar. University of Chicago Psychology Professor John Cacioppo says the findings of a new study are kind of astonishing.

One of the most amazing findings to us was that over a third of the marriages in America today started online. And the second was that this is not a negative thing; the break up and separation rates were lower and those who remained married were more satisfied in their marriage if they married online.

Cacioppo’s group studied a sample of nearly 20,000 Americans who married between 2005 and 2012. People between 30 and 40 years old were more likely to meet their significant other online, according to the study. Cacioppo was a guest on 790 KABC’s McIntyre in the Morning Show with Doug McIntyre and Terrie Rae Elmer.
