LASD: 22-Month-Old Girl Dies After Being Run Over by Mother’s Boyfriend

A 22-month-old girl who was run over in a Compton driveway by a pickup truck being driven by her mother’s boyfriend has died, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said Monday.

The driver was backing up the vehicle about 10:05 p.m. Sunday in the 600 block of North Willow Avenue when he felt the truck go over “an unknown object,” according to a sheriff’s news release.

He exited the vehicle and discovered that he had hit the toddler, the release stated. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her name was not immediately released.

Homicide detectives went to the home where they learned the boyfriend was unaware that the little girl had followed him outside. The mother was home at the time of the fatal incident, but did not know that her daughter had wandered out of the house, investigators said.

The boyfriend did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol; foul play is not suspected, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
