FULLERTON (CNS) – A former teacher at Valencia High School in Placentia was sentenced today to six months in jail, or time already served behind bars, for engaging in sex acts with one of her female students over a period of several years. Rebecca Eileen Diebolt of Brea has nearly four years in prison hanging over her head if she fails to complete five years of formal probation.

She must also register as a sex offender for the rest of her life. Diebolt pleaded guilty Jan. 15 to oral copulation of a person younger than 16 and sexual penetration by a foreign object of an underage victim. At the time of the abuse, Diebolt was a language arts teacher and a swimming and water polo coach at the school, where she began working in 2003, according to prosecutors. According to police and prosecutors, Diebolt engaged in sex acts with the victim on multiple occasions between 2004 and 2008, beginning when she was 15. The encounters occurred in Diebolt’s classroom and at her home both after school and on weekends. The acts continued after the girl graduated and began attending college, according to authorities, who said the victim came forward in June 2014.
