Would you foot the bill in order to take your foot off the peddle? KABC’s James Rojas tells us one L.A. city councilman sure hopes so after requesting a report.

Self-driving cars were once science-fiction, now a reality, so City Councilman David Ryu wants LA to be at the forefront.

“Eighty-five percent of the cost of car ownership could drop out by using this model and you’d still have all the benefits plus, not being the one stuck in traffic, staring at the bumper in front of you.”

Nicholas Greif is the councilman’s Director of Policy and Legislation. The city’s considering a fleet of autonomous vehicles for ride-sharing, something that will cost taxpayers, but Greif says will save even more in the long run.

The LA-Department of Transportation is now designated to come back in about 40 days with the potential cost and steps needed to create a fully autonomous transit system by 2035.
