Minors caught prostituting will no longer face criminal charges, but rather get help, thanks to new laws just signed by Governor Brown. KABC’s James Rojas tells us one police agency is happy the rest of the state is finally catching up.

The Anaheim Police Department has been on the forefront of saving victims of sex-trafficking for over six years now. Orange County is a hub for the crime, so it makes sense the different approach would start there.

“We provided training for other agencies in Orange County, as well as up and down the state. That was our recommendation to not arrest minors for prostitution.”

Sgt. Juan Reveles with the Orange County Human Sex Trafficking Task Force.

“That’s what we’re hoping. That the message gets out, that law enforcement and everybody else within government agencies is changing a whole new leaf and that there is help out here and for them to come out.”

The new laws also increase protection and services for victims.
