Opioid Doctor Shopping Crackdown

By

/

Doctors are now required to check a state database to make sure their patient isn’t “doctor shopping” thanks to a bill signed by Governor Brown. It’s something that seems like common sense to many… like Tim Smick, who lost his 20-year-old son after a skating injury and opioid addiction.

“It’ll take you down. It killed my son. It can kill yours.”

He says for years, the medical and pharmaceutical industries fought against this.

“By enacting this law like this, you’re going to sell less pills. You just follow the dollar.”

The state does have a database to prevent over-prescription but wasn’t mandatory for doctors to use… at least not until January 1st.
