HAWTHORNE (CNS) – A Hawthorne police officer was wounded today in an
officer-involved shooting at a storage facility, authorities said.
The shooting was reported at 4:43 p.m. at 4880 West Rosecrans Ave., said
Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Cheryl Sims.
“HPD officer shot and taken to local hospital. Suspect also hit,”
Hawthorne police posted on Twitter.
Video from broadcast news sources showed paramedics wheeling the alert
officer on a gurney to an awaiting ambulance with what appeared to be a leg
wound.
The officer had stable vital signs while awaiting surgery at the
hospital, police said. His wounds were not believed to be life-threatening.
There was no mention of the suspect’s condition.
Public Storage has a facility at that address, according to an internet
search.
Sheriff’s homicide detectives were assisting in the investigation, said
Deputy Lisa Jansen of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
Police shut down Rosecrans Avenue between Oceangate and Inglewood
avenues, according to a SigAlert reported by the California Highway Patrol.
