The stabbing was reported about 4:30 p.m. in the 3600 block of McClintock Avenue, according to Los Angeles police Officer Drake Madison. The victim was possibly a faculty member, Madison said. Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department said the man, who was about 25, was pronounced dead at the scene. No information was immediately released about the person in custody. The university issued an alert to students warning of police activity at the Seeley G. Mudd building. There was no threat to the campus community, the alert stated, but people were nonetheless warned to avoid the area.
