City responds to Metro Red Line terror threat

FBI received an ‘un-corroborated’ threat, targeting the Red Line Universal Metro station.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Jim McDonnell says he is urging “people
to always be vigilant as they go about their daily routine” in response to
that telephoned threat targeting the Metro Red Line station in Universal City.
He says uniformed deputies will have an increased presence at stations, and
undercover deputies will also be on the job on the transit system. LAPD Chief
Charlie Beck says the threat was “very specific,” targeting the specific
station, “but the credibility still needs to be vetted out.”

Mayor Eric Garcetti is urging people to go about their lives as
normal, despite that threat to the Metro Red Line station in Universal City. He
says he is planning to board a train at the station tomorrow morning, and notes
that travelers will see an increased law-enforcement presence at transit
stations.

FBI Assistant Director in Charge Deirdre Fike says that threat
targeting the Metro Red Line station in Universal City came through an
anonymous phone call to a public safety line, and authorities are working to
determine the credibility of the threat. The caller indicated that something
would occur at the station tomorrow, she says. Law enforcement officials have
stepped up security at the station and other transit stations across the area.
