“It’s a load off, ya know. I don’t have to worry about my car and what I’m going to do,” Mike Jones said.

Jones, a veteran and current EMT, has been without a car for weeks now after his started making strange noises. Ever since he’s been scrambling to figure out how to get himself to work and his kids where they need to go.

“I’m a single dad of three kids, spent four-and-a-half years in the Marine Corps. My daughter is a two-time cancer survivor and we’ve just been plugging away,” said Jones.

The surprise was pulled off by the Let’s Roll Foundation with the help of the Phoenix group, You Might Be a Veteran If and several sponsors. Jones was given a Volkswagen Jetta that had been donated and then completely fixed up.

“There’s a lot of organizations that are helping with medical, schooling, with homes and jobs but I never found an organization making sure that the cars were safe and that they had vehicles to get back and forth,” said Let’s Roll Foundation Founder Brandon Wells.

This is the second car the foundation has been able to give away to a deserving veteran.

“I’m not a veteran myself so to be able to provide for those who provided for us is a huge deal,” said Wells.

Jones submitted a letter to the Foundation laying out why he should be selected to receive the car but he had no idea he’d been chosen. He was told they were coming by to check out his old car.

“I just figured they were going to come take a look at this one, see what they could do, ya know, so I’m very surprised,” he said.

Jones was also very grateful to everyone who made this possible.
