Confederate Monument Removed from Hollywood Cemetery

By

/

The monument was erected at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in 1925 to honor confederate soldiers who moved to Southern California after the American Civil War.

It was paid for by the Long Beach chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Theodore Hovey is with the cemetery and says the chapter decided to remove it for its safety.

“It was kind of a prophylactic move. They were concerned that there might be more vandalism to the monument.”

The monument was slightly vandalized this week. It’s now being placed in storage.
