A legislator says California’s high speed rail project is under-funded by billions of dollars.
Assemblyman Jim Patterson says “high speed” is a misnomer.
“They’re building in three little segments and they don’t have the money to complete it. I think that is the outrage that the people of California have got to wake up to. They’re spending lots of money in San Jose. They’re spending lots of money in Central California; a little bit of money in the Los Angeles area and they’re pretending as if they’re building a high speed rail line.”
He says Governor Jerry Brown is waiting for Washington to come to the rescue.
”When asked in a public meeting about how does he find the money necessary to connect these three little segments to make it some kind of a railroad, his answer was, ‘We’re going to take back the House, and then when we take back the House.’ Democrats in the House will spend the billions.”
He says the taxpayers would get a better deal if the state would upgrade the existing Amtrak rail lines along the coast.
