Cal Fire funds running low

By

/

Firefighters from several agencies are spending a second day today battling a brush fire in East Fork above Azusa.  Firefighters also battled a stubborn brush fire yesterday that scorched nearly nine acres in Chatsworth.
The early onset of the fire season is severely taxing the state’s resources.  California has been hit with over five thousand wildfires this year, burning more than a million acres.  The state’s fire agency says it’s almost out money, having spent $432 million to fight fires through August.  To make matters worse, the traditional fire season has only just begun.
Cal Fire says it has just  $11 million left.  They estimate they’ll need another $234 million to fight fires for the rest of the year.
