Prof says Prop 7 to end time change will cause more disruptions

If you hate the fall back and spring ahead routine, chances are you’ll choose to end the switch over by voting for Proposition 7.  But there is a downside to the proposal.  U.C. Berkeley Professor of Business Administration and Public Policy Severin Borenstein says it’s better for public safety to leave the current system intact.

“If we go to Daylight Saving Time year-round, the sun won’t actually come up in Los Angeles until about 8 in the morning. That means a lot of kids are going to be going to school in the dark. A lot of people are going to be going to work in the dark and that in itself is going to cause a lot of problems.”

He says there will be more disruption of daily routines if we pass Prop 7.

“As it is, I understand, we have this disruption twice a year, but at least, apart from these disruptions, we’re all working on the same schedule. If everybody starts adjusting their times of opening and starting stores separately, we’re going to have a much bigger problem.”

Professor Borenstein was a guest on McIntyre in the Morning.
