Shawn Steel: Trump unlikely to win Democrats to back border wall

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer blasted President Trump today over his renewed threat to shut down part of the government over funding of a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. He called Trump’s Oval Office outburst a “temper tantrum.”
Shawn Steel, California National Committeeman for the Republican National Committee, says a deal between Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi over the border wall is unlikely.
“We know that Trump, in his heart of hearts, wants a big fat wall … But I don’t see how Schumer can convince his own caucus to do that.  He needs 60 votes in the Senate.  Pelosi doesn’t have a majority until January.”
Despite the odds, Steel says Trump likes the challenge of making deals with the unlikeliest people.
“He’ll meet with the worst person in the world; the dictator of Korea, he’ll meet with the premier of Chinese Communist Party, Xi; he’ll meet with Nancy Pelosi … this is his game. He loves to play poker.”
In the meantime, thousands of people continue to wait at the border for a chance to enter the country legally, or they are making their way into the U.S. illegally.
