Survey: More Americans get news from social media than print newspapers

More Americans are getting their news from social media than from print newspapers.  The latest  survey from Pew Research found that 20% of adults in the U.S. get news via social media compared to just 16% from print media.  Television continues to be the leading source of news for Americans, especially for local news.  But 43% of adults rely on news websites or social media, compared with 49% for television. Radio received a modest uptick in this year’s survey with 26% of adults tuning in for news.
The Pew study also reported that age gaps that have long been notable have now widened substantially.  People 65 and older are five times as likely as 18- to 29-year-olds to often get news from TV.  81% of those 65 and older get news from television often, as do 65% of those 50 to 64. Far fewer young Americans are turning to television news, however – only 16% of those 18 to 29 and 36% of those 30 to 49 get news often from television.
