Tax on texting? Great way to turn millennials into Republicans

The State of California had a major flirtation with the idea of taxing you for sending text messages.
But that dream of a new revenue stream quickly ran dry.  A taxpayer advocate says Democrats in Sacramento should be thanking their lucky stars.
“Nothing could drive millennials to start voting Republican faster than having text messages taxed,” says Jon Coupal, President of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayer’s Association. “Once again California is an outlier when it comes to stupid ideas.  So, they kind of floated this. They thought it was under the radar. We got a hold of it. The Feds, to their credit, came riding in like the cavalry and issued a ruling saying it would violate Federal communication laws.”
Regulators were scheduled to vote on the measure in January.
“We’re hoping this trial balloon has been shot down, but unfortunately, like most bad ideas, they tend to be perennial.”
Just don’t tell that to a millennial.
