Story heard first here on KABC. This morning Construction of new shower and sewer hookups are in full swing at the Mar Vista Homeless Encampment. Neighbors are upset with the shower hookups for Homeless Camp.

We’ve asked to speak with Councilman Mike Bonin and Mayor Eric Garcetti, but we have not yet heard back.

Construction on Venice Boulevard near the 405 isn’t to fix potholes, it’s to dig into a water line so taxpayer-funded showers can be hauled in next to a homeless encampment. City Councilman MIke Bonin’s representative Hannah Levien broke the news at a Mar Vista community meeting Thursday night.

”We are going to be installing showers at that location. Right now, the estimated timeline is around two weeks. It’s just going to be one to two times a week, with one attendant, with one shower. So it’s only going to be there one to two times a week at most. Always with an attendant and just one shower.”

Business owners and residents say the homeless encampment is a hotbed of drug dealing and shootings and they’re at their wits end.

As heard on The Larry O’Connor Show: Hannah Levien explains the showers and sewage system being put in place on Venice Boulevard.
