Some California lawmakers are accusing Governor Gavin Newsom of yanking gas tax money away from road improvements.

Republican State Assemblyman Jim Patterson of Fresno says Newsom’s executive order is leading to gas tax money going for projects like trains.

”It’s a blatant effort to basically be – I guess be – the dictator of gas tax spending.”

The governor told KGPE that he has not reviewed that executive order that he actually already signed. Patterson and other elected officials say that order moves money away from Cal-Trans improvements for Highway 99. He believes using the gas tax money for other purposes is a bait and switch.
