(LOS ANGELES) -- Three additional influenza-related deaths in San Diego County have pushed the total this season to 43, the second highest on record, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Officials from the county Health and Human Services Agency said, however, that new lab-confirmed cases declined for the fourth week in a row. The highest number of flu-related deaths was 58, during the 2009-2010 season, the paper says.

Of the 43 deaths, ages ranged from 42 to 99, and all but one of them had underlying medical conditions, according to the Los Angeles Times.
