TUSTIN, Calif. (AP) — Southern California law enforcement officials have yet to determine why the first victim in a deadly shooting rampage was doing in the gunman's home.
Orange County sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino says the slain woman has been identified as 20-year-old Courtney Aoki from Buena Park but investigators don't know what her relationship was with shooter Ali Syed.
Authorities say Syed shot her with his shotgun early Tuesday and then went on a carjacking and shooting rampage that killed two more people and wounded three before he killed himself.
Amormino says Syed was a college student described as a loner who spent a lot of time in his room playing video games.

Calif shooting spree victim small business owner
TUSTIN, Calif. (AP) — A Southern California commuter who was shot to death in front of other horrified drivers during a carjacking was a small business owner and father of two with a passion for fly-fishing.
Jeff Osborn, the brother-in-law of victim Melvin Lee Edwards, said Wednesday that Edwards owned a family business called Rubicon Gear and celebrated his 42nd wedding anniversary on Feb. 12.
The 69-year-old Vietnam veteran was on his way to work shortly after 5 a.m. Tuesday when police say he was killed by 20-year-old Ali Syed, who stole his BMW.
Police say Syed, a part-time community college student, then killed a construction worker in an hour-long rampage that began before dawn when he fatally shot a woman at his parents' home and fled. Syed later committed suicide.

Michael Linder, KABC News reporting
Orange County law enforcement have identified the gunman in this morning’s killing spree in Orange County as Ali Syed — a student taking a single class at Saddleback College — unemployed, with no criminal record — who shot three people in the OC this morning before committing suicide.
Police say the incident began when Syed apparently shot a 20-year-old woman multiple times in the home of Syed’s mother in Ladera Ranch, where he lived. OC Sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino.

Police say Syed’s parents and others were in the house at the time of the shooting — they quickly left when shots rang out. That’s when Syed began his multiple carjacking and shooting rampage. At one point, police say Syad told one of his carjacking victims that he’d killed someone, and this was his last day to live. Police saying at least one of those shot to death had been cooperating with his carjackings of their vehicles. Police say Syed apparently used only one weapon, a shotgun recovered by officers.

(AP) — Tustin police say at least three people are dead and others wounded after a chaotic 25-minute shooting spree that moved from intersection to intersection and onto the freeway.
Tustin police Supervisor Dave Kanoti says there are several crime scenes and many questions as authorities work to determine if the shootings were connected.
Tustin police got their first call at 5:30 a.m. but Kanoti says the shootings are believed to have started in unincorporated Orange County with a fatal carjacking. As the carjacker moved into Tustin, police started getting reports of shots fired.
Kanoti says two victims are confirmed dead in Tustin. He says the shooter then went several miles away where he killed himself.
Kanoti says shots were fired on the freeway and surface streets and it's possible there are more victims.
