DEL AIRE, LOS ANGELES COUNTY (KABC) -- California's first public fruit park has opened along with the newly renovated Del Aire Community Center in Del Aire.
The park is home to nearly 30 fruit trees and eight grape vines planted by members of the community.
Community leaders say the park is a way to celebrate the community and teach children what healthy living and recreation is all about.
"While these trees behind us are yet growing, they will bear fruit," said Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas. "They are small but if we invest in them, if we nurture them, they will in fact grow and bear fruit for our whole community."
A ceremonial tree planting, ribbon cutting and plaque revealing was held Saturday in memory of U.S. Army Spc. Daniel Patrick Cagle.
