WATTS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A gunman is dead following a domestic violence incident in Watts on Friday, police said.
The incident started around 3 a.m. in the area of Imperial Highway and Croesus Avenue, near Grape and 115th streets.
When police arrived at the scene, they found a man shot to death inside a truck parked outside of a home. Authorities said the suspected gunman approached officers, started firing at them and then barricaded himself inside a house on the 11500 block of Grape Street.
Officers said the suspect continued to fire shots at them from inside. At one point, a young child and a toddler ran out of the house and told police that their parents are dead. When SWAT officers entered, they found the gunman dead. Police initially said that a woman, believed to be the suspect's wife, was also dead inside the home. But they now say she was transported to the hospital in grave condition. A 1-year-old child was also found unharmed.
Police said the gunman died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The incident remains under investigation.
