(11/12/2008 5:05:11 PM) Doug,
Your explanation for why you voted for Obama makes no sense. I have to agree with Larry Elder that you don't believe in what you say you stand for. I can understand why you might not want to vote for McCain but to vote for Obama goes against everything you say you stand for.

Gary |

(11/12/2008 10:41:14 AM) Doug, Last week, you erroneously declared the Mormon church had spent significant dollars ("through tithing") on prop. 8, when they did not spend a dime. This morning, you said that Mormons make up 4 percent of the population of California, when it is LESS THAN 2 PERCENT. Is there no fact-checking in radio? Then, you went on to ask a "no-on-8" supporter why the Mormons feel the way they do. Why not ask a mormon? The No on 8 crowd (you included) seem to be intent on finding a small scapegoat/enemy they can pin this on. Catholics and evangelicals are too large. Religious bigotry against Mormons still lives (eg. Romney campaign). Yes, it is often those accusing others of bigotry who are the true bigots. I have never seen such religious bigotry. Do Mormons not have the right to support a political cause? Their financial donations swayed the campaign? I hope so! If I am going to sacrifice some of my hard-earned money to donate to a cause, I would not do so, unless I felt it would have sway! The "yes on 8" ads were ALL based on case study and ed. code sections. Mormons do not hate. They simply feel marriage is a sacred institution, formed by God--and that man or government do not have the right to change it. Gays should form their own tradition--call it "life unions" or something else, and maintain all the same rights as married couples. Tolerance is a two-way street. Call it something else, retain the same rights. Great compromise. By the way, take away every Mormon vote, and prop. 8 still passes. It won by the same margin as Obama did nationwide. |

(11/11/2008 7:50:27 PM) The beating that Doug is taking from the ideologues here says all that needs to be said about the deplorable shape of the discourse in this country... AND the shamefully low level of Constitutional literacy among some members of this audience.
Like his politics or not, the president is not some all-powerful monarch. He is not even capable of bringing to fruition what some of you people seem so afraid of. Let's not forget, for example, that ONLY the House of Representatives has the power to introduce new taxes. Not the president.
In this country we have a Constitution that enshrines and protects both our freedoms and checks and balances on government. So butch up and use the system to push back, like you're supposed to. And those of you calling Obama "The Enemy" have no idea what it's like to face a real enemy.
Don't crucify Doug for having a nickel's worth of independent thought and nuance. And kudos to Doug and KABC for not censoring all this bashing of him. |

(11/11/2008 6:32:58 PM) I am amazed at your audience's response to youvoting for Obama. I am not surprised atLarry Elder at all. You may not to want to hear it but it is in Larry's best interest to suck up to his core audience. They are how he has made his living and how he can keep making it. He questions your integrity even after you have explained your reason for voting as you have. I keep reminding myself that this is America, and you are allowed to express your belief. Ideally it is here where we can discuss snd leave off our discuss with respect, while maybe agreeing not to agree. That's not the real world for many of us, including with Larry and many of his supports. It's all or nothing as regards to what they believe. I respect your comments and have since I first listened to you when you took over your spot at KABC radio. I have not always agreed with you, but wasl able to follow your reasoning. I can say the same for Al Rantel. Unfortunately, I have not felt the same after listening to Larry Elder. It's his way or no way. He belittles people and occassionally has an listener articulate and impassioned enough to get him to be respectful of their differences. Anyway, Iwanted to send you an article from one of our area local paper on November 8, 2008, by the former editor. Like you, he voted for Obama instead of his usual Republican choice. It was a very reasoned short article in his Rolltop Roundup section of the paper. His name is Al MCCombs. He owned our local paper the Champion, in Chino, CA. He sees hope for our country and so do I. I am praying for this new administration. I also prayed for President Bush, but I wished all of us who claimed to Christians had been more faithful to pray every day for Pres. Bush. We will more diligent for the new president elect. These are critical times. |

(11/11/2008 3:47:57 PM) Larry has correctly described your vocation as 'comedy writer'. I agree, but your show hasn't been funny for quite some time! I would describe you as the king of cliches. I believe your type of talk radio belongs on air america... |
