A state legislator is trying to get cell phone makers to stop making phones encrypted in a way that blocks access to local law enforcement. Assemblyman Jim Cooper from Sacramento says prosecutors need to be able access the cell phones used by human traffickers, but they can’t issue a search warrant because of the technology.
What happened two years ago, a programmer at Apple made a program the person that made the program can unlock it and we know that Apple has keys because they deal with corporate espionage and stuff. They have ways to access those phones and they just really don’t want to do it, and that’s what it comes down to.
Cooper says cell phones used by traffickers hold evidence that could convict traffickers without the victims having to suffer the trauma of testifying. The Democratic assemblyman was a guest on 790 KABC’s McIntyre in the Morning Show with Doug McIntyre and Terry Rae Elmer.
