Two big sporting goods chains are cutting jobs and closing stores—and one of them going out of business for good.
The 57-year-old Sports Chalet, founded in LaCanada-Flintridge, is calling it quits. Quentin Fleming with USC’s Marshall School of Business points to online retail as the reason for their downfall.
“Sport Chalet was a victim of Amazon, it’s very difficult to match the prices that Amazon offers. And we also have a demographic shift going on where a lot of the consumers have grown up with the Internet and they do a lot of shopping on line.”
Meanwhile, Colorado-based Sports Authority has declared bankruptcy and is closing one-third of their stores nationwide. 19 stores in California will shutter. Tom Perumean, KABC NEWS.
