The Food & Drug Administration is telling people NOT to eat raw cookie dough. NOT because of possible salmonella poisoning from raw eggs — but because some of the raw flour in General Mills cookie dough is tainted by E. Coli. General Mills issued a flour recall in May — but it had already made its way into the raw cookie dough — and sickened 38 people in 20 states.
From the FDA website: General Mills conducted a voluntary recall of 10 million pounds of flour sold under three brand names: Gold Medal, Signature Kitchen’s, and Gold Medal Wondra. The varieties include unbleached, all-purpose, and self-rising flours. Flour has a long shelf life, and many people store bags of flour for a long time. If you have any of these recalled items in your home, you should throw them away.
Ten had to be hospitalized after eating the cookie dough raw.
