What a way to celebrate Independence Day! NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena has announced the JUNO spacecraft will begin orbiting around Jupiter…on the Fourth of July,
Emily Manor-Chapman is an engineer on the Juno Mission and she says, “In four days we go in orbit around Jupiter..so this is critical to our mission. We need this event to go correctly to go ahead with our mission”
That mission..which has taken five years to complete…is to determine the origins of Jupiter…and by extension…to learn something about the beginnings of the earth.
There will be a live broadcast on NASA TV at 7:30pm on the Fourth…
If all goes well, JUNO will do 37 orbits before NASA deliberately de-orbits…or crashes it..
