There’s a new gas and oil-drilling watchdog in Los Angeles after the job was left vacant for over two decades.

The city hasn’t given a reason as to why the watchdog position was left vacant for so many years.

Uduak-Joe Ntuk is the city’s new Petroleum Administrator, appointed by Mayor Eric Garretti. It’s a role that became a priority to fill after the disastrous gas leak at the Aliso Canyon gas storage facility. Chief Sustainability Officer Matt Petersen.

“To making sure the operators, the drillers are complying with local state and federal laws and regulations.”

Marta Dina Arguello with Physicians for Social Responsibility is cautious but optimistic.

“He did spend some time working for Chevron but he is a chemical engineer so jobs in that field are limited but from what I can read of his background, he’s done some things on green energy.”
