Terrorist have been using their websites to attract the mentally ill and to recruit them to join their causes. KABC’s Dr. Drew says the terrorists call these people “vulnerables.”
“Back in the day, people thought they were Napoleon, now they think they’re jihadists. If there is a sort of sweeping grandiose thing of the day people with manic depressive manias and certain kinds of paranoid schizophrenia and people with certain personality disorders are highly prone to identifying with these things. Whatever it is that they’re doing on these websites seems to resonate so profoundly with them that they are able then to enroll them. They’re really looking for somebody with vulnerability and a grievance.”
Dr. Drew says the failure to adequately address mental illness touches on many critical issues facing our society today.
“It comes up in the gun debate, it comes up in the health care issue and yet there never seems to be any progress. Look at the homeless situation, another area in which we have to look at the failing every day as we drive down the streets.”
Dr. Drew was a guest on 790 KABC’s McIntyre in the Morning Show. He is the host of Dr. Drew Midday Live with Mike Catherwood on 790 KABC.
