The U.S. has spent huge sums bringing Afghan soldiers to the U.S. for special training, only to see some of the trainees disappear. About 2,200 Afghan soldiers have participated in the training since 2007. Since 2015, 44 have vanished, leading many to wonder if the vetting process for bringing soldiers into the U.S. for training is adequate. The Pentagon says it suspects the vanished soldiers have quietly slipped away to live and work here illegally.
