A guy from Oregon has been driving around for 9 years with a vanity plate that has his last name on it. Everything was cool until the presidential election campaigns got started. Then, says Brian Trump, his life behind the wheel became a little more complicated.

“It was probably about 18 months or so ago. The first one – it didn’t really dawn on me what was going on. I was getting a bit of a sneer from a guy who kinda went past me – he made sure he paced my speed and kinda leaned forward and gave me that sideways look, like, ‘I don’t know about you.’ And then, it was about a week or two later, I was rolln’ around, someone comes up to me and says, ‘Hey! You’re not a Trump supporter, are you?’ And that’s when it clicked. I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh!’ I didn’t think people would react to it…I was like, ‘Oh-ho, the interesting times will begin.”

Trump says most reactions from people who notice his plate are just harmless, quizzical ones.

His wife also has a version of the Trump vanity plate on her car.

“She was just minding her own business, pulling up at a stop sign, someone pulls up next to her, obviously at the stop sign – it was a car full of three grown men. And they decided to yell, ‘F-you!’ And she goes, ‘It’s my last name!’ And their response was, F-you and Donald Trump, too!’”

Brian Trump says he will not disclose whether he is a Trump supporter.

“I have been intentionally dodging that question because the whole message behind me speaking to people has been to kind of get away from any political ties so if someone does have a difference of opinion that they’ll talk to each other instead of getting angry.”

He says he does not believe he’s related to the presidential candidate, but admits he’s never looked into it.

Brian Trump was a guest on 790 KABC’s McIntyre in the Morning Show with Doug McIntyre and Terri-Rae Elmer.
