The LAPD had a rough couple of days dealing with protesters following the election of  Donald J. Trump.  Los Angeles Police Protective League President Craig Lally says the lack of planning put officers at risk.

“I’ve heard they didn’t have an operational plan for this event because I think the Department thought there was no possibility that Donald Trump would win the election and that’s where we went sideways right off the bat. There was no preparation.  There really was no pre-planning for this and we were caught behind the curve and we were trying to catch up ever since.”

Large crowds moved into the streets right after the election result was known.

“The problem is…they were sent out on missions to control the crowds and to arrest people and they were sent out on missions with no resources and no people to back them up .. we didn’t have enough deployment and enough officers on the street to effectively arrest people in the first initial days of the unrest.  Consequently, the first couple of days was a disaster.”

Lally was a guest on 790 KABC’s McIntyre in the Morning Show.
