The LA Unified School District is hoping to reassure students afraid of the Donald Trump presidency with a new way to look for help.
In a video, LAUSD Board President Steve Zimmer tells students they can now call a hotline if they’re worried about themselves or their family being deported.
“I want to make sure you know that we value every student, every family, no matter which part of the world you come from, what language you speak.”
Executive Director of Student Health and Human Services Ericka Torres says social workers and counselors are the ones answering the call.
“And they are assessing the level of fear and anxiety and they talk about resources that are available and they refer them often times to our wellness centers.”
The hotline, (866) 742-2273, is active Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4:30.
