Tensions in the South China Sea just got amped up after a Chinese warship seized an underwater drone being used by an American oceanographic vessel. The incident took place Thursday near Subic Bay off the Philippines. The survey ship USNS Bowditch was about to retrieve the unmanned, underwater vehicle, a US official told Reuters. The drone was part of an unclassified program to collect oceanographic data, including salinity, temperature and clarity of the water, the US official added.
