City Council Moves Towards Banning Oil Drilling Near L.A. Residents

One by one, speakers like Ashley Hernandez of Wilmington told city council members about concerns of living near drilling operations.

“I have met many people, my family included, friends and community that have been impacted by neighborhood drilling.”

The council is forwarding the motion to ban drilling near residential facilities, to a committee citing health concerns.

However, the California Independent Petroleum Association says oil companies already follow strict standards and a ban could result in legal action.
