An LADWP employee will spend years in prison for embezzling millions of dollars but he’ll still be receiving a paycheck.

Sixty-six year old Thatcus Richard embezzled $4.4 million over 22 years while working for the Department of Water and Power. Though he’ll be spending the next five years behind bars, he will still be receiving his pension which an L.A. deputy city attorney called generous. It’s not known how much.

The LADWP can’t comment on Richard’s pension but in a statement said it is happy a criminal investigation was conducted.

Richard orchestrated a bid-rigging scheme with DWP contracts for audio and visual services, taking in tens of thousands of dollars in kickbacks.
