Deputies were responding to a noise complaint at a house party Thursday morning. L.A. County Sheriff’s Spokeswoman Trina Schrader says things escalated when the boy’s pit bull charged them, biting one deputy’s knee.

“At that time a male hispanic juvenile came from behind the apartment complex and restrained the pit bull and took the dog to the rear of the apartment complex.”

But Schrader says the dog came back aggressively with deputies opening fire again.

“As deputies walked to the rear of the carport area, they found a juvenile on the ground suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the chest.”

The boy later died at a hospital. Another deputy was also injured by a different ricocheted bullet. The pit bull will be put down.
