This will be a good weekend to head to the beach. The National weather Service says a heat wave will get underway in Southern California starting tomorrow. Forecasters say it will create an elevated fire danger that will extend into next week. The peak of the heat wave is expected to occur Monday, when highs will reach 97 degrees in Downtown L-A and 109 degrees in Woodland Hills. Forecasters say today’s temperatures will be roughly normal in L-A County but 10 to 20 degrees above average on Monday. They attribute the heat wave to a strong upper-level high-pressure system over the region combined with weakening onshore flow.
High heat can be deadly. So forecasters are urging residents to protect themselves and those close to them from the torrid conditions by doing these things: find access to air conditioning, even if it means visiting a library or other air-conditioned building, reduce the time you spend outdoors, drink plenty of water.
