Savannah Phillips endured a personally wrenching experience as a passenger on a flight – but was “rescued” when a male passenger stepped in to help her.
“It’s been pretty amazing all the support and really sweet messages I’ve received from around the world.”
Savannah was on a packed flight she had to take for her job. The plane ended up being weather delayed, stuck on the tarmac for 30 minutes.
Seated next to the window, Savannah noticed the guy next to her texting.
“Holding his phone out very obviously with a large font and a bright screen and I glanced to the aisle and glanced back and saw the words ‘smelly fatty.’”
Hot tears poured down her cheeks. She tried to hide her reaction.
A man sitting across aisle, one row back, also saw the text and her crying and decided to act.
“Somebody behind us spoke up and at first I thought it was the flight attendant. I just heard someone say, ‘We’re switching seats right now.’”
The voice was that of fellow passenger Chase Irwin. The next thing she knew, Chase had taken the seat next to her.
“He said, ‘Did you see his text?’ I nodded and he said, ‘don’t let that bother you, don’t be worried about it. It’s fine and he’s a jerk and it’s all going to be OK.’”
The rest of the flight was indeed OK for Savannah, thanks to Chase’s gallant intervention.
Savannah Phillips was a guest on McIntyre in the Morning.
