The city of Los Angeles has seen its homeless population increase by 25% this past year and a local doctor says the streets are not an option.
Tonight’s forum on Homelessness: Exploring a New approach aims to find a long term solution. Sponsor and Congressional candidate Dr. Kenneth Wright explains it’s going to take more than just throwing money at the problem.
“It’s a two step process. Step 1 would take place in a facility. A kind of medical triage, diagnostic facility and I’m thinking of LA County Hospital which is now vacant, it’s beautiful as you’ve got the county hospital right next door to it. And, this would be a place to figure out what’s wrong, what do we need to do. The second phase, I call it the cooperative, I used to call it the Township. I’m talking about a large facility, where you have a little farm, you have maybe manufacturing. And, some people will be rehabilitated over a year or two and for some people, it may be their home forever.”
Tonight’s forum begins at 7 at the Santa Monica Library, Martin Luther King Auditorium, 601 Santa Monica Blvd. Santa Monica.
