A California legislator is upset over what he sees as the misuse of money given to the DMV to make the wait lines shorter.
With the addition of about a million new driver licenses to illegal immigrants granted by the state, and the issuing of the new Real I.D. versions of licenses in order to board domestic flights, the legislature gave the Department of Motor Vehicles $23 million to expand its hours of operation to insure adequate service.
But, says Republican Assemblyman Jim Patterson, the DMV never did what it promised to do, which was to open their doors from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.
“The DMV took the money and did none, none of what they promised to do. And so the lines exploded … We started getting huge complaints – three, four, five-hour wait lines. Even if you got an appointment … This is a monumental failure of the DMV.”
He says he will continue to put pressure on the DMV to live up to its promises.
“I serve on the Accountability Committee. If things don’t get better very, very soon we’re going to ask them to come before the committee and ask them some tough questions.”
But he says it’s not likely the taxpayers will get a refund anytime soon, if ever.
Assemblyman Patterson was a guest on McIntyre in the Morning.
