If you’ve been shopping online to avoid paying sales tax, that may be coming to an end soon.
The Supreme Court has ruled that states can require online retailers to collect sales tax on purchases that come from area where they don’t have any buildings, offices or warehouses. Linda McMahon, the Administrator of the United States Small Business Administration, weighed in on how this will affect local mom and pop shops.
“I think it creates a more level playing field for the brick and mortar businesses in the states. However, the regulatory environment is going to be incredible if the states themselves now put these taxes on. I mean what the rule did was allow states now to impose tax on that business should they decide to do so. So they could decide what the percentage of tax is going to be if in fact they decide to put that tax on small businesses.”
McMahon was a guest on McIntyre in the Morning.
