Those electric scooters darting in and out of traffic lanes and up on sidewalks around town can be dangerous.
Dr. Sam Torbati, medical Director of the Emergency Department at Cedars-Sinai Los Angeles says there’s been an uptick in injuries related to e-scooters everywhere.
”We see patients that show up with head and facial injuries, concussions, fractures. They have injuries to their wrists, elbows, shoulders, broken bones, some need surgeries, some need hospitalization.”
He says the age group seems to skew older than with hover boards, which were associated with a high injury rate for a time.
“With these scooters, all of a sudden, in the last three-to-six months, we’re seeing adults, young adults, middle-aged adults, getting on these, falling and injuring.”
Dr. Torbati was a guest on McIntyre in the Morning.
