Study: Humans are hardwired to be lazy

Humans get tired just thinking about working out.  That’s according to a new study by researchers in Canada.

The study’s author, Matthieu Boisgontier, a neuroscientist at the University of British Columbia, says that despite years of education about the benefits of getting exercise, our brains appear to be nagging us to become more sedentary, not less.

“We think it is resulting from evolution because (in prehistoric times)  minimizing energy cost gave you an advantage for survival, because you were more efficient at finding food or finding shelter … With this study we need to go further to understand what’s happening and how to retrain (ourselves).”

He says our brains are constantly foiling our attempts to be more active.

“I see people take the elevator to go to the gym and I say, ‘You have been tricked by our brain.’ “

Matthieu Boisgontier was a guest on McIntyre in the Morning.
