It turns out, last month’s pair of massive earthquakes in the California desert caused billions of dollars in damage.

The five billion dollar price tag is due to damage at the Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake. The sprawling base sustained damage to hangers, buildings and equipment. The 17-hundred square mile facility contains some of the nation’s most advanced weapons systems. The Navy Times reports the base is still not “mission capable.” Congress and the President will need to approve money for the repairs.
