Updated: Here is what Mayor Garcetti said about the protests that shut down the 101
Via Twitter:
Angelenos should follow their conscience in response to the pain and senselessness of this horror. I will always believe in expressing ourselves powerfully, peacefully, and safely.
Does that mean he is ok with shutting down the 101 if it following your conscience?
The Los Angeles Police Department is reacting to a protest held after the death of a man in Minnesota. LAPD Chief Michel Moore released a statement last night as hundreds of people marched through downtown, saying the video of George Floyd getting arrested was incredibly disturbing and it goes against the basic law enforcement principle of preservation of life. Protesters in L.A. smashed the windows of CHP cruisers and shutdown the 101 for a while. Floyd died after being caught on camera pleading with a cop to get his knee off his neck.

Hundreds of people protesting the death of a black man in police custody in Minneapolis blocked a Los Angeles freeway, damaging California Highway Patrol cars and possibly injuring a demonstrator. The demonstration by Black Lives Matter-LA and others began peacefully downtown Wednesday afternoon but then some protesters moved onto U.S. 101. An arriving CHP car was surrounded and took off with some demonstrators on the hood after a window was smashed. One man jumped off and lay on the ground before he was taken away by paramedics. The window of a second CHP car also was shattered. No arrests were made. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said officer Derek Chauvin should be charged in the death of George Floyd.
