5.5 Earthquake Hits Near Ridgecrest, CA A Year After 3 Big Quakes
(Ridgecrest, CA) — Tense moments in Central California tonight where a five-point-five earthquake just struck. It was centered near Bakersfield and only 14 miles from Ridgecrest, which was rattled by three big quakes last year. This comes less than 24 hours after a three-point-nine quake hit in the same area near Barstow. So far, no reports of damage from either.

A magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck near Ridgecrest Wednesday evening and was felt across Southern California, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The temblor hit at about 6:32 p.m. It had a preliminary magnitude of 5.1 but was upgraded to 5.5.
