The 1939 Oscar-winning film “Gone With the Wind’ is soaring to number one on Amazon’s best-sellers sales chart after it was temporarily dropped by HBO Max. The new streaming service removed the movie from its library on Tuesday amid protests of racial equality in response to George Floyd’s death. Set during the Civil War and Reconstruction era, the film depicts ethnic and racial stereotypes and prejudices of that time. On Apple’s U.S. iTunes movie chart, “Gone With the Wind” currently occupies the fifth spot. HBO Max plans have a discussion about the film’s historical context and add it back to its selection.
